So what is Apodyopsis?

Imagine yourself sitting in a public place in a garden or in a bar. Consider yourself enjoying it with your friends or family. All of a sudden a lady or a guy comes and sits in front of your eyes. You take a complete look at them. Especially, what they are wearing. At this point you started doing it.

In your mind you start to undress the person in front of you. All their clothes vanished leaving a completely naked body. No matter you have done this unnoticeably but you have done it. You can’t lie to yourself. This is what you call Apodyopsis.

Origin of the word “Apodyopsis”

Well, let me tell you that this word is not a part of the modern English Dictionary. It is derived from ancient Greek words. Greek word “Apo” is used as a prefix mostly. Similarly, the Greek “dy” is used with “apo”. Thus the word “Apodyterium” means a room with undressed people.

Even the last-mentioned differs but the structure is similar to the word “Apodyopsis”. You may be familiar with the word “Opsis”. This word is related to vision and sight. So it means undressing someone with your eyes.

In your mind’s eye the person who wore clothes is now undressed.

People can perform Apodyosis even on Magazines

It is not necessary that the people in line of your sight get undressed. People can even perform apodyopsis with some on TV shows, on the internet and on magazines. So physical presence of a person is not necessary. So it doesn’t matter how and where they appear, an apodyopsis person can mentally undress them.

When People Perform Apodyopsis?

Normally, people perform apodyopsis when they are attracted to someone. This act carries importance for people who can’t be with the person of their desire. Even people with partners perform this process when they cannot see them naked or when they are in public.

Is attraction a requirement for apodyopsis?

Attraction is not a condition for apodyopsis. Sometimes people perform it because they are bored. Or to get rid of an uncomfortable situation.

However, apodyopsis is quite a private act. Nobody can know it until you tell them. But if someone performs it in a bold and shameless manner then it can put the people in intolerable condition.
