As Maldives is the smallest country in Asia by land area so it is also less populated with population of 515,696.

Malé Maldives

The capital of Maldives is Malé and it is also the most populated city. Because of its central location it is known as King’s Island. The total population of this city is 133,412.

Maldives consists of 1200 islands. These islands are grouped into 22 atolls. The atolls are in from north to south direction and they are spread over Indian Ocean.

Most of the islands in Maldives are not inhabited. In fact only 200 islands are inhabited.

The atolls are composed of white sand bars and coral reefs. Mostly beach sand is made from quartz but this is not the case with Maldives sand as it is composed of coralline. Mainly ninety nine percent Maldives is water.

One of the best island located in Maldives is Alimatha Island. Its aquamarine lagoons, sun-kissed beaches, spa centers and crystal clear water give a beautiful view.

The Maldivian language is Dhivehi or Divehi. It is an Indo-Aryan language. The Maldvian language has been influenced by various other languages such as Persian, Hindustani, English, Portuguese, French and Arabic.

All the people in Maldives are Muslims. They converted to Islam in 1153 A.D. All the visitors must have to follow religious rules. Outside the resort no alcohol is allowed.
