Crimes and murders have always been a part of history. No doubt there is something really strange that motivates serial killers to do what they are doing. Whenever we hear the word serial killer many questions arise in our mind such as what country produces the most serial killers? Who is the number 1 serial killer? Which country has most serial killers? Etc. Even many Hollywood movies and documentaries are made about them. But the real statistics are different from the ones shown in movies.

Interesting enough serial killings are not that common. In one year only 1 percent of murders are committed by serial killers. The country with most serial killers is the United States with over 2,700 cases. But the question is where in the United States the most serial killers are found or at which place you are likely to become a victim of a serial killer.

 The most popular state among serial killers is Alaska. From the past few year there have been 15.65 murders per one million residents. Between the year 1900 and 2014 almost 51 serial killings took place in Alaska. Surprisingly, more than half of these serial murders occurred between 1988 and 1990. This figure doesn’t sound much until you broke it down per capita. For a population of 750,000 the ratio of serial killings is quite high in Alaska.

Alaska ranks on top with the highest rate of most violent crimes in the country. There are 884 violent crimes per capita in Alaska which is much more than national average.

Worst Attacker “Butcher Baker”

The deadliest attacker in Alaska was Robert Hansen. American media named him “Butcher Baker”. Robert raped and murdered at least 17 women. But later he admitted that he had killed more than 30 victims. Butcher abducts women by showing them guns in the woods. He continued serial killings for over 13 years. Then how was he caught? One of his victims escaped from the back of his car thus the police found him. Robert Hansen was sentenced to 461 years of prison. Also there was no possibility of parole.

The state where most of the people are likely to become the victims of serial murders is California. Not only has the state had the most dangerous serial killers but also 1500 cases of serial killings. The numbers are high but compared to California’s 39 million population Alaska is still a more comfortable state for serial killers. When broken down per person the death rates are 7.81 per million.

California is also famous for Zodiac Killers, a pseudonym used for unidentified American serial killers. These killers remained active in California from late 1960s to 1970s. The zodiac killers claimed 5 casualties in California during the year 1968 and 1969. The zodiac killers are still a mystery. Some reports by the media and police showed that these killers are responsible for killing 37 victims.

The two most common ways to claim the lives of victims is choking and shooting. To this day, 552 sufferers were killed by shooting them while 334 were claimed to death by strangulations. The worst decade for serial killers was the 80s. So many Californians think the worst is over.

Harold Shipman is known as the number 1 serial killer of the modern era. He murdered almost 231 of his sufferers which is the highest known victim count for any serial killer.

Do Serial Killers have high IQ?

Various tests have measured the IQ level of serial killers. An average serial killer has an IQ score of 94 which is considered average. So a serial killer with IQ score between 94 to 110 can choke or shoot his victim.

So what is the reason why people become serial killers? Actually, these states are scarcely populated. The woods are the best place to hide the dead bodies. The vast areas in the jungle provide ease in hiding the footpath. But psychologists say the long cold nights and sparseness affect the minds of people. It can lead to depression and stress. Long dark nights proves to be the most suitable time for serial killers to carry out such dangerous intentions. Other aspects like higher draw of sex workers who are the most common victims of serial killings. Tough physically demanding activities and no law enforcement facilitate serial killers.

Although there are 75 American Alaskan villages, still there is no law enforcement. The citizens of Alaska are purely dependent on state troops which take hours to respond in an emergency situation. All these factors provide enough time to serial killers to hide evidence.
