The laws that were instituted in United Kingdom in 1300s are still in power. And you have to follow them if you want to be a noble citizen. The British legal system is one of the oldest in the world. Though there are some laws which no longer make sense because they are hundreds of years old. Without wasting time let’s dig into the list of Laws in UK.
Salmon Act 1986
This law refers to selling salmon that is gained illegally. To handle salmon in suspicious situations is against the law.
Trespassing Law UK
An Act was passed in 1603 according to which trespassing is allowed by baulkers and huers. For others it is illegal. People in Cornwall used to stand on the cliffs and shout from there to direct the fishing boats.
Law for Clothes Line
In United Kingdom it is illegal to put clothes line outside your home or across the street.
Eating Mute Swan
Only the Queen of England can eat mute swan. For others it is illegal.
Singing Obscene Song
It is always an indecent behavior to sing salacious songs in public. Similarly in United Kingdom it is against the law to sing obscene song in streets.
Currency and Banknotes Act of 1928
This Act states that it is illegal to deface British currency. We mean why someone would do that. Defacing of banknote include stamping on it, drawing and printing are all against the law.
MPs Can’t Wear Armour
You will never see British MPs wearing armour inside the parliament house because it is illegal. This law was named as Bearing of Armour Act (1313). Edward II instituted this law so that no one could threaten others on the basis of force.
Don’t Shake Carpet in Street
Do you live in Metropolitan Police District in UK? If yes, you definitely know that it is not allowed to shake carpets in the streets of Metropolitan Police District. This law is in power since 1839. But you can shake and beat doormats in the streets but only before 8pm.
Slaughtering cattle
Though it may seem fun for kids but the Metropolitan Police Act 1854 declared it unlawful. Willfully disturbing any inhabitant by knocking their door or ringing the doorbell is illegal. Police can fine you up to 500 pounds for such attempts.
Licensing Act 1872
It is against the law to caught drunk in public places. In case you break the law you have to pay a fine of 200 pounds. Similarly driving a cow, steam engine or horse while drunk can send you jail.
Gambling in Libraries
Do you think library is quite best place to gamble? Don’t think again about this because gambling in library is against the law. Library Offenses Act of 1898 make it illegal to use abusive language in Library.
Before placing the postage stamp on an envelope make sure monarch’s head is upward otherwise it is an act of treason. Deform coin, destroying stamps and burning note is also illegal.
Polish Potatoes
Importing polish potatoes in Britain is illegal. If you are going to do that then please notify the authorities. United Kingdom imposed a ban on it because of the outbreak of ring root disease which destroyed many crops.
Jumping the Queue
Always take care of people who have been standing before you in the queue at a subway. Well, it is a good act to do that. There is a law in United Kingdom which has marked it illegal to jump a queue at a subway. You have to wait for your turn or you have to pay fine.
